Electronics & Communication Engineering

About the Department

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at MBITS, established in 2009 with an initial intake of 60 students, provides exceptional opportunities for aspiring professionals to acquire the skills necessary to compete in today’s world. With a team of highly competent, dedicated, and dynamic faculty and staff, the department excels in placements, university results, industrial links, project quality, research and development, extra/co-curricular activities, and innovative academic initiatives. Emphasizing both academic excellence and practical skills, the department prepares students to meet modern challenges through a comprehensive infrastructure, active industry collaborations, and a strong focus on both theoretical and practical education. Undergraduate students are exposed to foundational and advanced technologies in Electronics and Communication, benefiting from active collaborations with renowned Indian institutes, ensuring they gain global perspectives and industry-relevant skills. The department’s modern infrastructure includes well-designed laboratories and lecture halls, featuring state-of-the-art equipment, organized workstations, and robust safety measures. Specialized labs such as the IoT Laboratory, Development Boards for prototyping, and Wireless Communication Applications enhance the learning experience. The department also boasts a Smart Seminar Hall and an Assembling Workshop.

The Consultancy Cell maintains electronic equipment for the church and other Mar Basil Group of Institutions where the college associates with, particularly public addressing systems, and has initiated in-house production of high-quality 9 Watts LED bulbs, tubes, and inverter bulbs. The department has signed an MoU with ConSed International for manufacturing Conscious Sedation Machines in India, with pre-final year students automating the sedation process as their Mini Project. An MoU with Revertech IT Solutions allowed a student to complete an internship as a business development intern. Regular industrial visits, including to Maker Village and Agappe Diagnostics Limited, enhance practical knowledge and industry exposure. The department library houses over 100 undergraduate titles and subscribes to magazines like Electronics for You and Silicon Chip, maintaining copies of student project reports and stocking standard textbooks. The library is accessible to both faculty and students for quick reference. Our alumni network spans prestigious organizations such as Infosys, IBS, TCS, UST, Speridian, Hexaware, Quest Global, VVDN, Experion, and NEST. Many alumni pursue further studies or careers abroad in the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand, with several serving as faculty or continuing their education in government engineering colleges across various regions reflecting the department’s commitment to producing well-equipped graduates ready for successful careers in Electronics and Communication Engineering.

B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering

The B.Tech programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering provides students with a strong technical foundation and research skills that enable them to succeed in their chosen fields. Regular interaction between students and faculty assists students in applying theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. The department provides ongoing learning opportunities through conferences, faculty development programmes (FDP), short-term training programmes (STTP), and workshops. Furthermore, faculty members organise special sessions on topics such as embedded systems, communication, control systems, networking, and so on, which ensures their placement in prestigious multinational corporations.

The department has enough classrooms, all of which are equipped with multimedia projectors and CCTV cameras. The department also has its own Seminar Hall.

With a well-organized and up-to-date delivery of the course where steps are taken to fill in the gaps in the syllabus provided as per the industry/profession needs, the department stays up with the technological advances in the Electronics and Communication Industry.

Some of the advanced papers offered in the curriculum are Nano Electronics, Real Time Operating Systems, Internet of Things, Optical Fibre Communication, Antenna and Wave Propagation, Computer Networks, Biomedical Engineering, VLSI Design, Digital Signal Processing, Digital Image Processing, Electromagnetics, Analog and Digital Communication, FPGA Design System, Information Theory and Coding etc. The curricula are regularly revised to reflect the most recent changes in the local, regional, national, and global contexts.

The Department has several well-equipped laboratories such as Analog circuits Lab, Logic Design Lab, Analog Integrated Circuits Lab, DSP Lab, Advanced Communication Lab, Integrated Circuits Lab, Microprocessor and Microcontroller Lab where students receive rigorous practical sessions. The students are also exposed to laboratory simulation packages like Xilinx, LTSpice, Modelsim, MATLAB/Octave/Jupyter, Keil µvision, Proteus, MPLab, Code Composer Studio, HFSS ANSYS. This aids the students in getting hands-on experience with these emerging technologies. Undergraduate students must successfully complete course/minor/major departmental projects. Students have the chance to practise their communication abilities by presenting seminars. For many years, the culmination of these efforts has resulted in getting more than 75% campus placement in various leading industries and organisations.
