The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2009 with an undergraduate program affiliated to MG University, Kottayam, Kerala with a sanctioned intake of 60 students, headed by Prof. M. V George. In 2012, the department started an M.Tech programme in Computer Aided Structural Engineering with an intake of 24 students and in 2013 expanded its domain by doubling the intake to B. Tech programme from 60 to 120 seats. The department is blessed with highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members, without whom the achievements were never possible. The department has state of the art laboratories with vast area, machinery, equipment and other facilities. In addition to high quality teaching and instruction, the department offers technical consultancy services also. Testing facilities are provided for different construction materials in our laboratories. The department has a separate library with more than 200 books and a large number of journals essential and useful to both teachers and students.

Some of the socially committed activities worth to mention are, periodic well water testing in Kavalangad Grama Panchayath, mapping of infrastructure of Kothamangalam municipality in open street map (MAPATHON), submitting detailed project report for pollution abatement of Kaliyar river, submitting the detailed project report for renovation of roads affected by major floods in Ernakulam and Idukki districts, NATPAC survey for Erumeli-Sabari rail project, Kochi water metro project etc. Our alumni members are working in public & private sectors like Spot on Structural Consultancy, Geo Structurals, LSGD, Infosys, Wipro, White rabbit, Metrolla Steels etc. They are also working/studying abroad in countries like the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Zew Zealand etc. Many of our alumni are working as faculty in various institutions and  few are studying in IIT Bombay and Govt. Engineering Colleges in various places.
