The Workshop Series on “Open Source Chip Design,” held on October 27, 2023, at the Mar Baselios Institute of Science and Technology, Ernakulam, was a significant event organized by IEEE CASS Kerala Chapter and Digital University Kerala. This workshop, part of the “Making CASS Inclusive” series, was designed to offer third and fourth-year ECE/EEE students insights into chip design using open-source tools. The session, led by Prof. Alex James and his team, included theoretical foundations, practical training, and hands-on exercises. Participants appreciated the engaging, interactive format, with particular praise for the facilitation by Prof. James. The introduction of the “Maker CASS” initiative further strengthened the community-building aspect of the event, aiming to encourage students to explore circuits and system designs. Feedback suggested extending the workshop’s duration and organizing follow-up sessions to deepen learning. With 46 participants, the workshop successfully provided a comprehensive and practical experience without technical issues.
